Course overview

NEW: Oral Lesions & TMJ Disorders in Practice: Diagnosis, Management and Referral

Introduction

This one-day face-to-face CPD course is designed for dental professionals who wish to improve their confidence in recognising and managing common oral mucosal lesions and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders encountered in everyday dental practice.

The course focuses on practical clinical decision-making and aims to bridge the gap between primary and secondary care. Through interactive teaching and case-based discussions, participants will learn how to assess oral lesions, recognise red flags, and identify when referral is appropriate.

Special attention will be given to the early recognition of oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders, as well as the assessment and conservative management of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). The course will provide practical guidance on what can be safely managed in primary care, what should be monitored, and when specialist referral is required.

By the end of the course, participants will feel more confident in diagnosing common oral lesions, managing patients with TMJ symptoms, and making appropriate referral decisions.

Course Aims

  • Improving clinicians’ confidence in assessing oral lesions and TMJ-related conditions
  • Supporting safe, evidence-based decision-making in general dental practice
  • Clarifying referral pathways and thresholds for specialist input
