Course Overview

Introduction

Fixed dental prostheses remain a predictable and valuable treatment option for the replacement of missing teeth. With advances in adhesive dentistry, digital workflows and contemporary restorative materials, clinicians are now able to offer both conventional and resin-bonded bridgework using evidence-based protocols tailored to individual patient needs.

This one-day course combines interactive lectures with hands-on practical training, providing delegates with the knowledge and clinical skills required to diagnose, treatment plan and prepare teeth for fixed dental prostheses.

Particular emphasis will be placed on appropriate case selection, bridge design, preparation principles and contemporary clinical techniques that can be immediately implemented in general practice.

The practical sessions will allow delegates to perform tooth preparations for both conventional and resin-bonded bridges on phantom heads under specialist supervision.

• Apply sound biomechanical and biological principles when planning bridgework.
• Design conventional and resin-bonded fixed dental prostheses appropriately.
• Perform predictable tooth preparations for conventional bridges.
• Prepare teeth for resin-bonded bridges following contemporary minimally invasive principles.
• Understand material selection, impression techniques and laboratory communication.
• Recognise common causes of bridge failure and understand strategies to improve long-term success.
• Incorporate current evidence into everyday clinical decision-making.

Practical Session

Delegates will undertake supervised phantom-head exercises including:

• Conventional bridge preparations.
• Resin-bonded bridge preparations.
• Assessment of preparation design and common preparation errors.
• Practical tips to improve efficiency, accuracy and clinical outcomes.
