This key Core CPD subject will be covered in great detail. This course will include all aspects of Radiography and Radiation Protection as mentioned in the Guidance Notes for General Dental Practitioners.
To update the dental team and improve their knowledge and compliance of the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR)1999 and of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations IR(ME)R2000 ensuring an improved, safer working practice.
To deliver information on legislation relating to the IRR 1999 and IR(ME)R 2000. To discuss radiation production and methods of limiting the effects of ionising radiation to delegates and others.
Delegates will be able to:
- Discuss IRR 1999 AND IR(ME)R 2000 and their importance in the workplace
- Discuss the production of x-rays and methods of restriction of exposure to themselves and others
- State the role of the Radiation Protection Supervisor, Advisor and employer
- State the role of the operator, referrer and practitioner
- Discuss justification of medical exposure and the ALARP principal
- Discuss the importance of dose limits, controlled areas, investigation & notification of incidents, training, monitoring, optimisation and Quality Assurance
- Discuss common film faults and how they can be avoided
The cost for this course is £149 and includes course notes & light lunch.
Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance from LonDEC, Kings College London Dental Institute and be awarded with 6 hours of verifiable CPD.
CPD Training Coordinator for King’s College London Dental Institute
Jillian Eastmond is CPD Training Coordinator for the Dental Team Education Centre at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust based at the Denmark Hill campus.
Since qualifying as a Dental Nurse at Manchester Dental Hospital in 1994, Jillian has worked in private & NHS practices as well as Dental Hospitals.
Jillian is a National Diploma and Oral Health Education examiner for the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses as well as Deputy Chair of the NEBDN Certificate in Dental Radiography committee.
Jillian is an experienced teacher who delivers lectures ranging from National certificate and Post registration training as well as CPD throughout the UK.
Jillian’s current role is the management and delivery of a range of learning opportunities such as full post registration courses and one day seminars for the registered DCP and their dental team.
Jillian doesn’t have much time for hobbies as she is also a parent governor at a large secondary school and part of a fund raising committee for local charities however, she is learning to play the ukulele much to her colleagues’ amusement.
