The aim of this course is to meet the needs of those taking on the role of Decontamination Lead, and is also suitable for Practice Managers, Principals, Senior Dental nurses or anyone with a general interest in the decontamination processes within Dentistry.
By the end of this course the learner will be able to:
- Explain the principles of decontamination and the importance of performing the decontamination process as set out in the relevant guidelines.
- Explain the principles of auditing and have an understanding of how to perform an audit within a decontamination area.
- Implement an effective means of monitoring compliance in relation to decontamination within a healthcare environment
- Identify and manage the risks associated with decontamination
- Understand the role of the Decontamination Lead and the expectations in terms of regulations and guidelines
This course will enable learners to acquire the knowledge and skills required to underpin the specialist role of a Decontamination Lead. In addition to face to face learning a variety of strategies will be used to support learning which includes simulations to develop clinical skills. Learners will also have an opportunity to share ideas and network with other professionals.
Module 1- Prevention of disease causing Microbes (Saturday 14th April 2018)
Module 1 of this course aims to explore the key principles of infection prevention and control. By completing these learners will have a better understanding of the aetiology agents and modes of transmission. Learners will also effectively contribute to the reduction of transmittable diseases as stipulated under ethical and legal legislation.
Module 2 – Managerial interventions (Saturday 12th May 2018)
Module 2 of this course aims to enhance the learner’s contribution to service improvement planning, implementation and evaluation in Decontamination and infection prevention. By completing this module learners will develop knowledge and skill in the management and treatment of patients with Healthcare Associated Infections; compliance with best clinical practice; and the governance arrangements including risk assessments and effective policy and procedures in place.
