The session will cover the theory and techniques to meet the objectives as outlined above.Participants are then shown how to correctly and safely use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and airway management using an array of devices. The group is shown the drugs in our drug box and their purpose explained. The session will consist of Scenario Practice and group debriefing. Course participants are orientated in our simulated dental surgery and shown where the relevant equipment is stored.Participants are introduced to an advanced training mannequin, where his physiological signs are demonstrated – consciousness, pulse, breathing and capillary refill being the prominent signs examined in general dental practice. The group is then split into smaller groups and immersed into realistic scenarios, all of which could be encountered in the dental chair or anywhere in the dental practice. After each scenario, the participants review their actions with the tutor and the remainder of the group using our digital video recording system. This part of the training proves to be a high point of the course enjoyed by all participants.
