Since graduating in 1999, Dr Najla Nizarali has worked in primary care and secondary care settings both nationally and internationally.
Dr Najla Nizarali is a consultant in sedation and special care dentistry who has worked at the Department of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry at Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust since 2007.
She has extensive experience treating anxious and phobic patients under basic and advanced sedation and teaching sedation techniques in general practice and hospital settings.
Her main areas of interest and expertise are in treating patients with basic and advanced conscious sedation techniques and managing the care of patients with haematological disorders and challenging medical problems and disabilities.
Najla was the course organiser for the undergraduate sedation and special care dentistry course for over a decade. She continues to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in Sedation and Special Care and supervise postgraduate students through their research projects.
She is on the teaching faculty for the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), with whom she has been a lecturer for over 10 years. Najla also teaches postgraduate courses on basic and advanced conscious sedation and is an examiner for RCSEd postgraduate sedation and special care examinations. Najla currently carries out peripatetic sedation referrals for dentists in primary care.
