Course overview

The morning session will cover the theory and techniques to meet the objectives as outlined above.

The course takes place in LonDEC’s dedicated Decontamination Training Suite. The morning will start with a short overview of the theory of the transfer of microorganisms through dental procedures; followed by an introduction to HTM 01-05 outlining of essential and best practice recommendations. Some basic theory behind disinfection and sterilisation techniques will also be covered.

The afternoon session will encompass practical activities. This is when participants follow the recommended compliant decontamination process. (This is from dental chair and surgery through to cleaning, servicing (if required), pouching, sterilising & storage of instruments ready for use).

This will enable individuals to gain a greater understanding of what to do if equipment fails, if faults occur or to identify causes of quality test anomalies.

Participants return to the Decontamination Suite and follow easy to understand instructions at each workstation.

Selected workstations will be used for tutor feedback to dispel current ineffective practises and review participant’s skills.
